Summary[]
Mahiro and Momiji head to the library to gather material for a book report.
Plot[]
Mahiro and Momiji are at the Municipal Library. Mahiro notes that it's been forever since she was here. Momiji is surprised at this, especially since Mahiro seems to love books. Mahiro notes that she's mostly into manga and light novels which is hardly book report material. She begins to absentmindedly browse the manga section wondering which one to pick. Momiji reminds her that it is a literature book report, causing Mahiro to comment that that stuff is only going to make the next generation hate reading. Momiji is shocked by that comment, reminding Mahiro that she doesn't need to tell her that.
Once the girls have found their books, Momiji asks Mahiro if they should read it where they are. Mahiro isn't sure since there are so many people and suggests that they see if there's an open table.
While searching for one, the two notice Miyo sitting at one of the tables and call out to her in excitement. Miyo is equally happy to have run into them, and gets a bit aroused thinking that the two are on a library date, Momiji insists that they're getting books for their book report.
Mahiro asks Miyo if she's here for homework as well. Miyo says that she's doing her research project, explaining that she's putting together a recipe collection from around the world. Mahiro and Momiji are filled with dread at this information, with Mahiro telling Momiji to be careful practicing them, much to Momiji's confusion.
Miyo asks the two what they are doing for their research projects, leading Mahiro and Momiji to realize that they have no idea. Momiji says that it seemed like a lot of work so she was putting it off. Mahiro on the other hand thinks that when push comes to shove, she's get a pro's [Mihari's] help.
Mahiro asks if there's anything else that she's forgetting for the homework. Momiji says that there's the calligraphy assignment and the arts and crafts project.
Mahiro is surprised by the latter, and Momiji explains that they're supposed to make something with sewing or knitting. Mahiro is disappointed as she doesn't know anything about that and is certain that Mihari doesn't either. Miyo asks if they want to do it at her place, saying that she can teach them. The two get excited at this, with Mahiro thanking Miyo and saying that she'll absolutely do it. Miyo suggests that they invite over everyone else so they can all do it. This makes the two even more excited, with Momiji totally on board.
At Miyo's house, she lets the group of girls, now including Asahi and Nayuta, into her room. The girls are all amazed, with Momiji saying that she doesn't think that she's ever seen Miyo's room before. Miyo blushes and notes that it is a little embarrassing. She tells them to sit wherever they like, and Asahi says "you got it".
Nayuta apologizes for bringing such a large crowd, but Miyo tells her not to worry about it, explaining that its easier on her to have them all here at once. She adds that she is pretty good with textiles as well, so she tends to make a lot of things and always has scraps and odd ends lying around as a result. She decides to show them a basket she made, calling it her best work.
The other girls start to dread, imagining the basket as a pile of gunk much like her cooking. Asahi decides to take a peek, and much to hers and everyone's surprise, the basket is elegant and well crafted. Asahi says in a surprised tone that it's good and solid, which leaves Miyo confused while Momiji is relieved.
Miyo tells them that now it is time to decide what to make. She says that the easiest things to make would be a small pillow or pouch, and with her sewing machine they will be done in a flash. She also adds that they can use a little embroidery to make cute critters too.
Asahi says that she'll just make a dust cloth, but Momiji suggests that she make something cute instead. Momiji herself decides to go with a throw pillow, possibly in the shape of a star. Miyo calls it great idea and tells her that she'll want to use a pattern for that. While Nayuta thinks of what to make, Asahi decides that she wants to use the fish print.
While everyone is chatting, Mahiro remembers her true self and wonders how she ended up in a junior-high girl's room learning sewing from her. As she choses a polka-dot print, she notes how surprised she is at how all this is becoming second nature to her.
Mahiro notices that Nayuta is making a critter, with Miyo noting that it is in the same shape as her hairclip. Asahi thinks that it is a bear, while Momiji believes it to be a frog. In the end, it turns out to be a bear shape with a plain smiley face attached to it, exactly the same design as Nayuta's hairclip. While everyone is shocked, Nayuta notes that it is perfect and so cute. Mahiro thinks to herself that Nayuta'd definitely got a screw loose as well.
Eventually, Momiji finishes her pillow and it turns out exactly as she pictured it. Everyone else finishes soon after.
Asahi notes that it was way easier than she thought, remarking that her pouch turned out great. Mahiro smiles and notes that it was all thanks to Miyo.
After Miyo leaves the room, Asahi announces that it is time to go through her stuff, despite Momiji telling her not to. Asahi says that she was wondering about a bookcase in the room the whole time. Mahiro notes that there is a lily patter screen over it, and realizes that it is covering up Miyo's Yuri manga collection that she doesn't want others to know about. Knowing this, Mahiro tries to hold back Asahi and tells her to stop, saying that Miyo covered it up for a reason. Asahi decides that that might be so, and decides to check out Miyo's drawers instead, much to Mahiro's shock.
Inside, Asahi finds an oversized bra, much to the shock of her and Mahiro. Asahi puts it back, closes the drawer, and notes that the world is unjust while Momiji closes her eyes in shame. Mahiro notes that this situation seems familiar.
Miyo announces that she's there and asks someone to open the door, with Nayuta being happy that she's back. Once the door is open, Miyo appears with drinks and snacks in hand, apologizing as her hands are full. She says that she thought she'd make them a snack while she was at it. Momiji and Asahi are grossed out by what Miyo made, with Asahi asking her what "that goopy stuff" is. Miyo says that it is bara ghanoush, but the others are confused not knowing what that is. Miyo explains that it's a Turkish appetizer that she read about at the library. Mahiro and Momiji understand, but are still freaked out.
Mahiro thinks that she can't really tell what it's supposed to be, with Momiji thinking that there's no telling what could be in there. Asahi decides to try some and takes a bite, much to Mahiro's relief. Asahi stops moving or making any expressions after eating it. Momiji notes that Asahi has stopped moving while Mahiro notes that it is her punishment for looking through Miyo's stuff. Miyo asks what it tastes like, much to everyone's confusion. Mahiro and Momiji are shocked that Miyo doesn't know what it tastes like, and Miyo explains that she only saw it in a book.
Nayuta explains that bara ghanoush is a spread made from roast eggplant that you eat with flatbread. She adds that it is quite tasty if made properly, leading Mahiro to remark that Miyo really is something.
Sometime later, Mahiro shows off her new homemade candy cushion to Mihari who loves it.
