Mahiro and Mihari endure a sudden blackout during a thunderstorm.
Plot[]
On a dark and stormy night with lots of rain falling outside, Mahiro sits in her room playing a video game. She is all set for a long session with a bag of lightly salted potato chips and a bottle of cola. She notes with delight that once she gets past this enemy, she'll be further than she's ever been without dying. All of a sudden, a massive bolt of lightning flashes outside and the screen suddenly goes dark, much to Mahiro's surprise.
Mahiro realizes that they rain has caused a blackout and begins to call out for Mihari to let her know. She goes into Mihari's room, only to see that she's not there. Using her phone to see in the dark, Mahiro begins to look through the house for Mihari. She eventually opens a door and finds her, asking if she's okay. It turns out that the door in question was the bathroom, and Mihari is seen sitting on the toilet with her pants around her ankles. Mihari screams and throws a roll of toilet paper at Mahiro who backs off, noting her mistake.
Once Mihari gets out, the two sit at the kitchen table and use their phones to light up the space. Mihari notes that the whole neighborhood is blacked out as well. Mahiro groans and notes what a drag this is. She says that they'd better do something for lights then, and Mihari gets an idea.
Mihari lights some scented candles and places them on the table. Mahiro is surprised, and Mihari explains that Kaede gave them to her. She says that they don't give off much light, but she thought that they'd help them relax as well. Mahiro chuckles, noting that girls really do like this stuff.
Mahiro then sneezes, and notes that it's getting cold with the heat off. Mihari laughs and gets up, saying that she'll get some blankets.
Before long, the two are relaxing while wrapped in the blankets while basked in the glow and scent of the candles. Mahiro notes that this is pretty nice and that it's strangely relaxing. Mihari begins to flip through a book, after which Mahiro notes that Mihari's eyes will go back if she tries to read in the dark, which Mihari agrees with.
Smiling, Mahiro asks Mihari how it's going for her at the university, to which Mihari notes that she's surviving. Mihari asks for the reason behind Mahiro's sudden interest, to which Mahiro says that it's just small talk. Mihari is intrigued, pointing out that such a think is rare coming from Mahiro. Mahiro says that this situation just got her in the mood, after which Mihari laughs and says that it's still weird.
All of a sudden, another bolt of lighting crashes down which caused Mihari to scream. She begins to tremble, noting that it really shocked her. Mahiro asks Mihari if she's still afraid of thunder. Mihari angrily asks Mahiro what she meant by "still" and points out that thunder is scary, saying that they could've gotten struck. Mahiro frantically apologizes, and points out that she was referring to when Mihari was little.
In a flashback, it is revealed that Mihari was terrified of thunder during a storm when she was four years old. She was trembling beneath a blanket and holding an Oshima plushie when another blast of thunder struck outside, scaring her. She began to cry and called out for Mahiro who immediately appeared and began to comfort her. Her wrapped a blanket around the two of them and said that it was all right now, and that she could sleep with him. Mihari immediately stopped crying after that.
Back in the present, Mahiro notes that Mihari would cry every time there was thunder, something that Mihari doesn't remember at all. Mihari suddenly realizes that that's the reason why Mahiro was so worried and looking for her before, because her instincts to comfort her during such a time were still there. Mihari immediately closes her eyes and begins to nuzzle Mahiro, much to her surprise. Mihari gets a big goofy grin on her face and chuckles as her head falls into Mahiro's lap, accepting that thunder really is scary. Mahiro asks what's gotten into her all of a sudden, but quickly accepts it as fine and begins to rub her hair at the scented candles continue to burn.
The next morning, the rain has gone and the birds are tweeting outside. Mahiro wakes up on the couch with Mihari fast sleep hugging her from behind. Mahiro yawns and notes that she must've fallen asleep before noticing the sleeping Mihari. Mahiro slowly untangles herself from Mihari and notes that it's not like Mihari to be so uncareful.
Mahiro puts on her school uniform as Mihari continues to sleep. As Mahiro leaves, she notes to Mihari that she should sleep in today and thanks her for everything. Mahiro meets up with Kaede and Momiji outside as they prepare to head to school. As this happens, Mihari suddenly begins to smile brightly in her sleep, having been tucked in under the blankets by Mahiro.
Some time later, Mihari wakes up and realizes in a panic that she overslept and is now late.
