Nayuta's Recent Past (なゆたと少し前, Nayuta To Sukoshi Mae) is a bonus chapter of Onimai: I'm Now Your Sister!. It was published exclusively in Tankōbon Volume 5 which was released on May 27, 2021 in Japan, and March 22, 2022 in North America.
Summary[]
Nayuta recalls how she was enrolled in Mahiro's class.
Plot[]
Some months ago, at Mihari's university, she heads into the reference room to get some books. When she gets the book she needs, she sees Nayuta reading on a nearby table. Not knowing who Nayuta is, Mihari wonders if she's lost or maybe on a campus visit.
Mihari says hello to Nayuta, after which Nayuta stands up and apologizes for being in Mihari's way and tells her not to mind her while bowing. Mihari is surprised, and leaves noting that this strange girl sure seems polite.
Mihari heads back to her computer and places the books on her desk, noting that it's time to get to work. Shortly after she sits down, Chitose surprises Mihari from behind by calling her name while grabbing her shoulders, scaring her.
Mihari tells Chitose that she's asked her not to scare her like that. Chitose apologizes, but notes that she can't help it since Mihari has the best reactions. She begins to squeeze Mihari's shoulders, causing Mihari to complain.
Chitose asks about Mahiro, and how she's coping with the school environment. Mihari notes that she just finished her latest research report. She explains that although Mahiro was reluctant at first, she quickly made friends. With peer support, mood and outlook improved and she even began to experiment with cosmetics. Mihari notes that she really seems to be developing quite well. Chitose takes the report, and thinks to herself that Mihari acts like she's Mahiro's mother. Chitose says that the thing that Mihari said is the most important and adds that she'll review the report properly later. Chitose says that she's out for today, as she's keeping someone waiting. Mihari says okay, and that she'll see her tomorrow.
Chitose heads to the reference room to collect Nayuta, who is happy to see her. Nayuta says that she appreciates everything that Chitose does around here, but Chitose points out her phrasing. Chitose adds that she doesn't mind Nayuta being here, but thinks that it must be awfully boring for her. Nayuta says that it is not it at all, saying that there a whole lot of books to read, and like she said she is happy to help out. Nayuta laughs as she takes off her lab coat, and points out that she can help when she's a little older. Nayuta pouts and says that she is already quite old, but Chitose laughs and wonders about that.
Chitose says that she wishes Nayuta would spend more time playing with kids her own age rather than hanging out with her. Nayuta claims to be no good with kids her own age. She says that her social skills are a little lacking and that she's much more at ease with adults. Chitose thinks to herself what a troublesome situation this is, as social skills are the hardest things to teach. She starts to think that Mihari might be better than her for explaining this.
Nayuta catches a glimpse of the research report and asks what its about. Chitose apologizes, saying that this one is a secret, much to Nayuta's disappointment. Chitose then remembers what Nayuta said about being more at ease with adults. Looking at the report she starts to come up with an idea, even though she notes that it might not be fair to Mihari.
Chitose asks Nayuta if she thinks she could help her out with one little think. Nayuta beams and says that she'll be glad to. Chitose points to a photo of Mahiro and begins to explain the truth about her to Nayuta.
In the present day, Nayuta watches Mahiro interact with her friends while continuing to gather research using her tablet.
